Anger Management (1/8) Movie CLIP - Rage on a Plane (2003) HD

ANGRY THURSDAY
Tired of people?  People get tired by this time of the week.  When we're tired thinking goes down.  When thinking goes down listening goes down as well.  Adam Sandler captures this perfectly in this short clip.  Being tired is is normal.  Being angry isn't - or shouldn't be.  Let's make sure to think and listen!  Especially when we're tired.

Markell May Have Cancer. But He's Unstoppable.

MONDAY'S MOTIVATIONAL VIDEO:
OUR ATTITUDE DETERMINES OUR ATTITUDE
I love this young man.  I've never met him but I love him for his courage and strength.  This video hits close to home.  Tests, surgeries, and waiting for results are tough.  His attitude lifts him and those around him higher and higher!  You don't have to have cancer as a teen to understand significant life challenges. It's easy to feel sorry for yourself and give in.  It also doesn't take much effort.  It is very hard to stay positive in the face of change - especially change you didn't ask for.  That positive attitude starts with a choice - a simple choice.  That small choice takes a ton of energy and sustained effort over time but don't worry about that part... you will grow into that effort and find that energy once you commit to the positive.  It's especially difficult when the outcome is unknown and forever away.  A great attitude pays off throughout your challenge and is a powerful tool for perspective as we look back on the challenge when it's past.  Choose to fight!  Do something today!  Build you aptitude for a great attitude now when times are good and you'll have a habit ready to go when the tough days come!

Procrastination and the Marshmallow Experiment

The Misconception: You procrastinate because you are lazy and can't manage your time well.

The Truth: Procrastination is fueled by weakness in the face of impulse and failure to think about thinking.

This clip demonstrates a classic experiment conducted by Walter Mischel at Stanford University.  Your brain is a tool that can be sharpened and used effectively.  Most of us don't take the time to think about what we really want.

URHB" What you think about matters!  How you think about it matters even more!

A Speaker's Worst Nightmare

For fun, and to ease back into this - I have a short video - a nightmare actually.  I really feel sorry for this guy.  Watch and relate!  Sometimes, as prepared as we may be, life happens.  It is my personal belief that - if nothing else - we can control our attitude.  It isn't what happens to us.  It IS how we respond to what happens to us.  What would you do and how would you respond if this happened to you?

Sorry...

Hey Everyone!  I must apologize for disappearing.  I have missed blogging.  I miss the methodical searching for good material.  I miss hearing from you and reading your responses.  It's been a long four weeks.  My son Josh broke his right leg (tibia and fibula) and needed surgery.  His recovery has been long and difficult.  As a family we have had other challenges.  My health has been challenging as well.  We are now mostly healed up or in the process of healing.  I think we are ready to get back to living.  Watch for regular posts Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Risk. Reward. BACKUP PLAN!

I have received a few comments about my posts this week.  I am not advocating a mass exodus from day jobs and risking your life for a rush.  Far from it.  I can use these moments to teach some important URHB.  To many people - making a one hour presentation to the board or corporate leadership is worse than this video.  Public speaking is ranked above death as a fear or phobia.  Courage IS doing something even though we have fear.  I hope you walk your own personal "tightrope" - high above the normal elevation.  Your preparation and effort to make the event worthwhile.  It's a risky operation overcoming your fears and becoming the best you.  You may miss a step and fall.  URHB: Make Sure You Have a Back Up Plan So You Can Climb the Mountain and Try Again!

Life Limbs And The Pursuit of Happiness

This week I hope to use these great videos from extreme athletes and GoPro to teach some URHB.  I would love to kyak, but with my vocal cords and airway I will never get close to this type of situation.  I can experience some of what he must feel as I watch him go over the falls.  How does this apply to my life?  First of all, I need to know what I love to do.  If I'm in touch with that I can discipline myself to learn, train, practice, and perfect my technique for that one moment - where it all comes together.  Can I do this?  Can you?  The answer is YES if we decide to do it.  URHB: No Risk No Reward.

Why Would Anybody Do This?

I've always wanted to fly.  This must have been a blast for the rider as well as the audience.  Andy is willing to risk life and limb for a few moments of "BIG AIR".  What are you willing to do?  How high are you willing to climb?  What will you risk for your moments of BIG AIR?  Thanks for helping me dream and fly!

URHB: Pursue and Publish Your Passion

This 4 minute video is fantastic.  A man from Romania was sad that the Space Shuttle was retired so he launched his own and it went to the edge of space via weather balloon.  The first two minutes document the ascent.  The screen goes dark at 2:40 and then you see the shuttle at the edge of space on the 2:45 mark.  Raul was unafraid of what others thought about him.  He went to Germany to find permission for the airspace.  He has influenced nearly 400,000 people by chasing and publishing his dream.  Let's do the same.  You can read his words below.

"My name is Raul Oaida (from Romania) and this is my LEGO tribute to the end of the space shuttle era. Proving that although retired, this machine can still fly, albeit in toy form.

The launch took place from central Germany (easy flight clearance) and reached a max altitude of 35000m. A 1600g meteo balloon filled with helium was used alongside a GoPro Hero, Spot GPS and of course Lego Space Shuttle model 3367.

We launched it on the 31st of December 2011, the equipment was recovered via GPS tracking 240 km S-E from a remote area."

You Have Got to Be Kidding Me!

How many times have I been on a plane and ignored essential safety information... too many times to count. I've heard it a million times and it's boring. Insanity has been defined as doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result. Watch this safety video for Air New Zealand. It will hold your attention - GUARANTEED! Watch for cameo appearances and other surprises. You will watch the entire video and you will be entertained. It holds your attention and teaches. What can you do to gain and hold the attention of people?  Looks like Richard Simmons is available for hire.  Do something today to get noticed.  Make a difference.

Failure Filter

One last filter check for the week. How do you look at failure? How do you feel when you fail? What do you tell yourself in the midst of an "epic fail"? What you think about matters. Your thoughts become things. Your behavior follows your belief. Pay attention to your brain. You can change your filters!

Filter Check

Hey Friends! This is an incredible video. It also helps you see how your filters are set. Remember there are no right or wrong answers to this exercise - it helps you understand where you are. Some of you will watch this and write your next business plan on the back of a napkin while others will think that these people were just plain lucky. There is a very challenging statement about life towards the end. It will scare some people while at the same time it will reinforce a negative belief about life. Your brain isn't right or wrong - it is what it is - and once we are aware of our filters we can set up systems to overcome challenges and change our filters to see opportunities and fulfill our goals!
